The Financial Accountant sits within the Financial Accounting team which is responsible for the operation of the General Ledger and related systems, whilst also ensuring compliance with relevant policy and legislation. The Financial Accounting Team also delivers the Annual Report for the DCC Consolidated Group. This is an exciting and rare Dunedin-based opportunity for a well-established accountant to gain large-scale financial reporting experience.
The DCC is looking for a motivated and hard-working individual to join the Finance Team as a Financial Accountant.You will be part of a team that is responsible for providing support in a variety of functions for both the Finance Department and other Council Departments on a day-to-day basis.
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, this is a busy and varied role. The key responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to the following:
General Ledger Reporting and Balance Sheet ReconciliationsManaging the Fixed Asset Register for the Whole of CouncilReviewing Asset Capitalisations to ensure that they are compliant with Accounting StandardsPreparing GST and FBT Returns and providing information to income tax advisersActing as an adviser to other staff in relation to tax and financial reporting mattersSupporting the preparation of Council's Annual Report and responding to external requestsProviding guidance and support to staff in finance administration rolesDealing with Statistics NZ surveys and statutory returnsTo be considered for this role, you will have:
Minimum of three years post-qualification experiencePrevious experience working within the finance team of a commercial or public sector entity.Experience working with NZ Financial Reporting standards and a strong knowledge of tax principles.Experience working in audit or comparable local government organisations will be an advantageWhat we offer
