Who we are

We are the IT Support Services Team and work to provide a wide range of technology services and solutions to support academic and professional colleagues and students across the wider campus at the University of Otago.
Our service comprises of five key teams; AV and Lecture Theatre Support, eConferencing, Shared Laboratories, Desktop Support and Media Production. We support everything from teaching in our lecture theatres, deployment and troubleshooting of computers, video conferencing facilities, through to producing videos that will be viewed by thousands.
The role
This position will see you as part of our Desktop Support Team, providing effective, reliable operational IT support, advice and recommendations in a way that is easy for stakeholders to understand.
You will perform hardware and software maintenance, provide technical support and the timely diagnosis and resolution of software and hardware incidents. You will act as a point of contact for Desktop Support enquiries, all the while leading from the front with an enthusiastic and proactive approach to customer service.
Key tasks include:
• Resolving desktop support requests from your customer group.
• Working with your customer group to ensure that purchasing of hardware and software is suitable for their needs.
• Implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions and prevention in accordance with University procedures.
• Proactively building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with customers and IT colleagues.
Your skills and experience
• An in-depth experience supporting Mac OS X and Windows computers.
• A demonstrable passion for customer service and exceptional service delivery.
• Experience delivering high quality IT support in a large, complex environment.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to write in a welcoming, informative and non-technical style.
• A relevant tertiary or equivalent industry qualification.
We are looking for someone with a strong track record in desktop support who has a high level of knowledge, expertise and experience supporting desktop operating systems and software applications used at the University of Otago.
