Te ahuatunga a te turanga | About the role Being an Assets Engineer (Bylaws) at Bay of Plenty Regional Council means being part of a committed and experienced team of professionals working to safeguard and maintain the performance of our region's flood protection and land drainage infrastructure assets.
In the role, you will regularly provide technical engineering and asset management advice within the Rivers and Drainage Assets team, with a focus on the implementation and compliance of the Flood Protection and Drainage Bylaws 2020.
You will lead the bylaw authority application process, including technical reviews, site investigations, and ensuring compliance. Additionally, you'll regularly perform professional engineering asset analysis for rivers and drainage schemes, providing advice to support asset team functions such as asset renewal and performance evaluation. You will also supervise contractors and oversee contract works. Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local authorities, landowners, consultants, and contractors, is essential.
O pumanawa | Your skills and experience Ideally, you will have a relevant degree or tertiary engineering, science or natural resources qualification with at least 5 years relevant technical experience. Practical knowledge and experience with rivers and drainage scheme assets and management. A good understanding of river and drain engineering principles for design and construction. Experience working with rural farming communities and an awareness of farming practices and environmental challenges.
