We are looking for a Registered Nurse for an Adolescent Public Health Nurse part-time position.
This is a permanent position based in Whakatane within the Community Health 4 Kids team (CH4K).
CH4K delivers a range of health services in the community to children aged 0-18 years and their whanau.
The team consists of nursing and allied health staff who work autonomously in the community but have great support from the wider team. The services are primarily delivered in school, preschool and home settings.
Our vision is to ensure that all children have access to health care and support.
Our focus is on gaining a holistic view of the child and their whanau through a thorough assessment process of their health and social issues. We then facilitate a referral for the child into the most appropriate services. This is done through advocacy, consultation and case management.
All of our services work closely with Oranga Tamariki and Police as needed.
All Nursing staff are expected to participate in our School Based Immunisation Programme and the delivery of our TB service.
Adolescent Public Health Nurses (PHN) primarily work with children aged 10 – 13 years and their families. This is mostly done in school settings and in the child’s home. PHNs have strong relationships with school staff and community health and social services.
The ideal applicant will:
Have excellent communication skills and will be able to establish relationships with clients, schools and other services quickly and easily.
Have good knowledge of child development and ideally some paediatric experience.
Be able to manage an independent work load and be flexible in order to contribute to wider team needs.
Be a team player but comfortable working independently and making sound decisions in a short time frame.
Be able to manage unexpected and challenging situations to ensure their own safety and that of the child and whanau.
Be compassionate but will be able to have difficult conversations when needed.
Have a good knowledge of the health and social issues affecting adolescents
Have a good understanding of the health and social issues facing Maori and Pacific Island communities
Have a good understanding about their own cultural situation and insight into how they work with people from different cultures and communities
