Graduate And Intern Recruitment

Details of the offer

Christchurch, CanterburyTait P25 is a robust, interoperable and secure digital radio solution, which we deliver for Public Safety organisations around the world. This project will give you the opportunity to learn about the different parts of a P25 communications system and become familiar with the protocols used. You'll also learn how to acquire P25 packet capture files and use tools from commercial libraries to decode the audio packets to WAV files for analysis.
Many links exist in modern communications systems. Problems or impairments in any of these links can have a detrimental effect on the quality of audio received by a listener at the end of the system. The problem we want you to help solve is to determine where in the links impairments to voice quality occur by extracting voice packets within these links and analysing them.
Your project will be to develop a tool that can extract audio data from PCAP files, and convert it to a WAV file for analysis of the audio content. You'll be working with experienced engineers on a project that will have a real impact on improving the quality of our P25 systems.
To be successful on this project, you'll need to be studying software engineering, and be familiar with or interested in working with low level protocols using tools like Wireshark. Experience in JAVA is essential. Experience with or interest in learning about the following would also be beneficial:
Programming languages (C, C++, other scripting languages)
Networking protocols (TCIP/IP, SIP, RTP)
OS (Linux, Windows)
Modelling languages e.g. UML
Compilers
Unit testing and debugging
Software configuration management tools e.g. svn, gitlab, cvs
