The National Aquarium of New Zealand invites applications for the position of Supervisor, Fish & Aquatic Life Support, to join our passionate and dedicated team on a full-time basis.The successful candidate will oversee the well-being of our fish and reptile collection, ensuring their optimal health and the daily care of exhibits. Leading a team of Diver/Aquarists, they will provide direction, ensuring adherence to standards for animal welfare, health and safety, maintenance, and operational protocols.Key Responsibilities:Supervise daily operations, ensuring the maintenance of displays, equipment, and technical systems.Maintain optimal water quality for the health and clarity of aquatic environments.Prepare and administer food according to prescribed protocols, including supplements as directed by the Aquarium Vet.Undertake weekend Duty Supervisor duties for animal department operations on a rotational basis.Collaborate with Aquarium vets and address out-of-hours animal care concerns.Maintain records, update SOPs, and ensure staff are trained accordingly.Participate in daily diving activities for animal care and exhibit maintenanceTo excel in this role, ideal candidates should possess:Certificate or Diploma in Aquatic Sciences, Biology, or related field.Diving certification to a minimum of rescue level.Ability to maintain medical clearance for occupational divingLeadership/Management training.Experience working with freshwater and marine fish, invertebrates, and reptiles in human care.Proficient understanding of water quality parameters.Previous experience in staff leadership.Strong customer service orientation.This is a full time opportunity working 40 hours per week, on a rostered basis.We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.About UsJoin the dynamic team at Napier City Council, where we pride ourselves on excellence, integrity, and sustainability, while delivering exceptional customer and community service.
