As the Kaihonohono Maori, you will play a crucial role in fostering strategic relationships and strengthening connections with Maori communities and organisations through engagement that reflects the values of tika, pono and aroha.
·        Understanding iwi/hapu of the Bay of Plenty.
·        Reporting through to the CEO.
·        Based in Tauranga, Rotorua or Whakatane.
·        Empower communities through sport, recreation, physical activity, and play.

Te ahua o Te Turunga - The nature of the position  The Kaihonohono Maori - Strategic Maori Relationships Lead has been created to enable and lead Sport Bay of Plenty's commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and to uphold, strengthen and build relationships with Maori community stakeholders and partners. 
Ensuring the aspirations of Maori are honoured and valued, the role will incorporate identifying and building authentic relationships with the many iwi, hapu, funders and kaupapa Maori organisations within the Bay of Plenty that Sport Bay of Plenty could work with. You will seek to establish and build relationships that support better outcomes for Maori whilst developing a shared vision for Maori physical activity. The position will ensure Maori perspectives, opinions, and voices are equitably represented in the future planning, policy, and strategy of physical activity across the Bay of Plenty. 
This pivotal position will provide key support to the senior leadership team in understanding and providing for Maori and will support the embedding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in strategic planning, organisational practice, and shared outcomes. 
Enabling staff to understand and to build relationships with kaupapa Maori organisations, you will further ensure content and marketing practice presented to the community, correctly reflects Aotearoa New Zealand and our dual heritage with equitable representation of Matauranga Maori and te reo me ona tikanga. 
Nga tino Pukenga/Wheako - Essential skills/experiences for the role. Skills, knowledge, and experience required for application include: 
·        A fluent speaker of Te Reo me ona tikanga.  
·        Experience to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders through advocacy, negotiation, and collaboration alongside the ability to influence, persuade and inspire others.
·        Passionate about the role of sport recreation and play and its role in overall wellness.
·        Previous experience in strategy creation and operational delivery.
·        Significant experience in strategy development and/or community development, and operational frameworks.
·        The skill set to facilitate collaboration and capability building across the sector.
·        Expert in strategy build and operationalisation of delivery frameworks.
·        Strong networks within the Bay of Plenty region.
·        Knowledge of matauranga, and practical application of principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
·        A degree in a relevant field (planning, policy, management, or Maori discipline) is highly desirable.
Knowledge of council planning and processes, and Sport NZ strategic direction and policy would be highly desirable.
