JR 4661361.Mo te tunga | About the role The Asset Recovery Unit (ARU) is a partof the Financial Crime Group of the New Zealand Police. The unit'sprimary roles are to deny criminals of the opportunity to benefit fromtheir offending, or the ability to re-invest in criminal activity.Police do this by taking away their 'ill-gotten gains' and making surethat crime really doesn't pay.International trends among law enforcement agencies indicate thatrecovering assets is often more successful as a deterrent than thecriminal prosecution. New Zealand Police are invested in capitalisingon this prevention tool and the workgroup is expanding.The Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009 is a relatively new piece oflegislation based on civil court processes, meaning you will beworking on the 'balance of probabilities'. New case law is beingobtained constantly and you will be encouraged to push the boundaries,use your initiative and explore ways of using the Act to recovercriminal gains.In the Northern Asset Recovery Unit you will be part of a team basedin Auckland. We are looking for an investigator who can managereactive and proactive investigations, working closely with thecriminal investigation teams targeting serious criminal activity. Youwill prepare and execute court orders, conduct interviews, assessevidence of criminality and complete detailed financial investigationsto identify assets, quantify illegitimate income and seek forfeiturethrough preparation of affidavits to the High Court.Key accountabilities: Build and maintain partnerships both internallyand externally; Good written and verbal skills with the ability toprepare court orders and affidavits in a clear and concise manner;Manage time effectively to complete multiple investigations and meetdeadlines; Manage competing demands and a high workload; Keep accurateand detailed records of all information and decisions; Prepare, manageand/or investigate serious and complex cases; Manage risk in relationto criminal investigations; Maintain a flexible schedule to allow forwarrant executions and terminations.He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring Being part of the Policewhanau is about being our best to ensure our communities are safe andfeel safe. The applicant will also be able to criticallyanalyse financial data alongside criminal investigations to isolateand extract relevant information and present their findings withconfidence in written documentation, as well as personally in a courtenvironment.Internal and external partnerships and working collaboratively are akey focus and the successful applicant can expect to be heavilyinvolved in investigations associated with multiple departments withinPolice and across our external partners.Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements Candidates will berequired to complete a PCT fitness test before being confirmed intothe role. Candidates will be required to undertake PITT Level 2Responder training. Must have a relevant tertiary qualification and/orfive or more years of criminal investigation experience (preferred).Drug and alcohol testing will be required in accordance withguidelines. Must hold a Class 1 full driving licence. Must hold acurrent first aid certificate in accordance with NZQA standards.
