Napier Golf Club, Waiohiki is the oldest golf club in Hawke's Bay. Opening in 1896 we recently celebrated 125 years of golf at the club. Over the years it has been the site of many New Zealand and inter-provincial tournaments, hosting the first New Zealand Open in 1907.  Located just 15 minutes from Central Napier and 15 minutes from Hastings, we boast a world-class golf course with excellent facilities, including multiple practice greens, two driving ranges, and a 6-hole short course. We take pride in providing an exceptional golf experience to all 830 of our members and guests all year round. We invite applications for a Senior Green Keeper to join our small, tight-knit team and to assist our Superintendent in the delivery of day-to-day operations, restoration projects, and importantly, our long-term strategy of course development and progression. You will be joining a passionate team with over 60 years of industry experience. Last year our club was hit hard by cyclone Gabrielle, causing significant loss and damage to the course due to severe flooding. While we have come a very long way since then with most of the recovery now complete, we still have work to do to restore some key areas of the course. You will be part of our ongoing restoration and recovery projects as well as play a significant role in the future development and enhancement of our great course. This is a wonderful opportunity for a recently qualified or junior greenkeeper, who is willing to progress and develop their turf management career. You will play a key role in creating and maintaining our wonderful golf course, protecting our rich heritage, and progressing our course into the future. The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in greenkeeping or related field, with a proven track record of success. Level 4 Sports Turf Management qualification is preferred. An excellent understanding of best practice turf management in a golf course setting, including strong knowledge of turf grass species, cultivation techniques, and disease management. Sound understanding of environmental regulations and best practices in sustainable turf management. Proficiency in using and maintaining relevant equipment and machinery. Ability to excel as part of a team and demonstrate strong leadership skills with both staff and volunteers.  Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and interact with members and guests professionally. Takes pride in the small details to ensure Napier Golf Club is maintained to the highest standard possible.  Knowledge of Rainbird irrigation system would be an advantage; however, training can also be provided.  Have a good understanding of health and safety obligations in the work environment.  Valid full NZ Driver's license. Key Responsibilities Execute turf maintenance tasks, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control, to maintain optimal course conditions. Monitor course conditions and identify areas for improvement, taking proactive measures to enhance playability and aesthetics. Operate and maintain specialized turf equipment in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines. Collaborate with The Superintendent and club management to coordinate course maintenance schedules and special events. Uphold environmental stewardship practices, including water conservation, waste management, and pesticide reduction efforts.
