Our Wellington branch is continuing to grow and we need to keep building our team of Log Scalers. We have permanent and casual positions on offer. Log scaling is an NZQA accredited job, where a structured training programme can gain you a recognised qualification. You don’t need previous experience in this type of role either as training is provided.
The Checkpoint is a facility where logging trucks come to have their logs measured and ticketed ready for export. The Log Scaler manually “scales” or measures each log using an international standard, then barcodes the log and scans it into our system so that every single log can be tracked wherever it is.
The Checkpoint is a team environment where the safety of our staff is paramount. Shifts can be up to 12 hours in length with some weekend work and you need to be flexible with working hours as shift times can vary. Permanent work is available with either day or night rosters. The Night shift measure logs that come in via rail, while the Day shift handles truck arrivals.
About you
You will be the kind of person who likes to be accurate when taking measurements, with good attention to detail. Previous administration and data entry experience will be beneficial. You will also enjoy communicating with truck drivers and members of your team. This is an active outdoor role that requires you to meet deadlines and also be ok on your feet for most of your shift. You will also be confident operating scanning equipment and preferably hold a full class 1 licence.
