Tirohanga(formerly Houchens Retreat) is a pioneering localities-based village inGlenview, Hamilton, offering the local community a range of programmes andservices aimed at improving physical and mental wellness, and connection topeople and place.
TheTirohanga kaupapa has been informed by an extensive co-design process, and aimsto bring to life the vision, hopes and aspirations of the local community for awellness village, including a Mama-Pepi space, an exercise space, a rongoaspace, a learning space, a variety of walking, teaching and reflective gardens;along with programmes and services – all set on a beautiful five and half acreproperty.
We are seeking an energetic, competent assistant who has experience in gardening, ideally growing vegetables, and an interest in all things seed-to-plate. Some basic kitchen or hospitality experience will be needed to provide programme delivery assistance in our kitchen, and support with the preparation of nourishing meals.
In thisrole, you will:

Provide friendly, competent, and professional customer service to all who visit the site Raise a variety of vegetable seedlings in our greenhouse Support with planting, feeding and harvesting successive crops in our kitchen garden Maintain and weed raised beds and keep pathways clear and tidy Assist in meal preparation as required to include baking, dishwashing and maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen Maintain hygiene and minimise any risks This isa casual role with no guaranteed hours.
We are looking for someone with a heart for ourkaupapa, someone with generosity of spirit. You will love working with your hands and are not afraid to get themdirty, but are equally comfortable in the kitchen prepping and supporting the creation of nourishing meals.

You will have:

A reasonable level of fitness and enjoyment of working outside Basic knowledge and interest (or a willingness to learn) in raising seedlings and plant care A good understanding of relevant Health and Safety expectations in both garden and kitchen Good communication skills, flexibility and be confident working as part of a team Ideally an interest in or experience with maramataka or other matauranga Maori gardening practices Earn up to $27.60 per hour A wide range of discounts through our employee discount app Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Ra katinga | Closing date: 8 May 2024.
