Based in Wellington, with location flexibility for the right candidate. About us Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is the national agency for place-based heritage in Aotearoa. We celebrate, research, care for, and assist communities to recognise and protect these places for the benefit of future generations. For over twenty years, our Maori Heritage Team has been working with whanau, marae, hapu, and iwi to identify, conserve, and protect our taonga places. We are looking to grow our team to support Maori communities in the ongoing care are conservation of their taonga tuku iho. If this is the kind of kaupapa that you value, we want to hear from you. About the role This permanent full-time role is based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, reporting to the Director Kaiwhakahaere Tautiaki Taonga me Kaupapa Maori. Your focus is the management and delivery of an annual work programme collaborating with Maori communities in the conservation and care of Maori built heritage, especially marae-based taonga.
You will also lead engagement processes for Maori Heritage with government departments and other arts culture and heritage agencies on Maori Built Heritage matters; and support the organisation's ongoing Treaty settlement and post-settlement relationships with iwi and hapu.

Your skills and expertise are critical to helping us achieve improved heritage outcomes for iwi, hapu and Maori and for Aotearoa New Zealand more generally.
Your skills and expertise could be from a hands-on taonga conservation background, the Maori built environment, Maori resource managements and environmental planning, or project management with iwi, hapu and marae communities. All these specialist areas are critical to helping us achieve improved heritage outcomes for Maori and for Aotearoa New Zealand more generally.
About you Your knowledge and experience that will see you succeed in this role:
Ability to articulate a Maori world view and apply it to the work of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere TaongaYour ability to advance and promote Maori values and principles in a heritage context, and heritage values in a kaupapa Maori context.Excellent research and writing skills.Experience managing a multifaceted programme of work.Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles.Experience developing and maintaining networks, credibility, and relationships with whanau, hapu, iwi and other hapori Maori.Experience working with Maori communities.Experience managing a team of experts.Experience interacting with and providing advice to senior decision makers in written and oral form.Knowledge and understanding of matauranga, tikanga and Te Ao Maori, and a keen appreciation of the local circumstances.A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.A driver's licenceNote: You may be redirected to the employer's careers website.
