What we are looking for:an experienced H&S professional who has had exposure to employment relations, training and development throughout their career.
OUR CLIENT:
Our Client is 100% kiwi owned and operated specialising in health, agriculture and commercial farming. Well established in the market, this New Zealand organisation provides a high quality and scientifically proven product to their consumers both nationally and internationally. Our client has some significant growth opportunities in the pipeline and have decided to appoint some additional trained professionals within operations.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

This pivotal role will lead the safety, wellbeing and people strategy and function across Christchurch, and champion a positive safety culture while influencing managers to ensure their staff are trained to do their job, safe and well.
THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Director, in this newly created role of H&S / HR you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a companywide safety strategy in relation to both processes and people.
You will need to take full responsibility of H&S, assisting in achieving the company's safety objectives as well as providing advice and reporting to the CEO and Board, if required.
You will need to coach and develop the team leaders to enable them to continuously improve.
You will develop Health, Safety and Wellbeing performance reporting to meet the needs of the business in addition to any external safety regulators.
This position is located within a factory environment and you will need to be visible onsite in and around the factory, in addition to organising and executing regular toolbox meetings with the team.

In addition to H&S, you will also be responsible for Human Resources. For this you will need a hands-on approach and be capable of personally designing and implementing new HR processes.
Some of the responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing human resource policies, procedures, and programs.
Oversee employee confirmation, performance reviews and develop a performance management system.
To oversee personal and professional development, which will involve employee induction, development, and training, including apprenticeships.
End to end recruitment including taking job briefs, recruitment advertising, telephone screening, interviewing, reference checking and administrative functions.
Employment relations, performance and remuneration to comply with legislation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety professional who likes variety. If you have had exposure to the people and employment side of an organisation and would like to take on a role, which combines both H&S and HR, we would love to hear from you.
WHAT ELSE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

HSE Diploma/Tertiary HS&E qualifications and/or equivalent is desirable.
A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a generalist H&S position ideally within a factory, manufacturing, warehouse environment or similar.
Experience in the use of software-based reporting and investigation systems.
Proven success and experience in promoting and enforcing health and safety in the workplace.
An understanding of New Zealand legal systems, regulatory processes and relevant legislation.
Understanding of safety management systems, Incident investigation, Risk assessment/management and Safety audits.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Outside of the square thinking to deliver results
Strong people influencing skills including communication, relationship building, motivational in addition, staff development.
Possess a passion for health and safety.
An HR related qualification would be advantageous.
