Environmental Engineer - Rivers

River management at Environment Southland is undergoing something of a refresh at the moment, in part due to investment by central government in resilience projects. If you're looking for a challenging role to make a difference for the environment - this is it!
Perhaps the most significant driver is an organisational commitment and structural change that supports/ enables a more integrated approach to catchment management across the organisation.
Flood protection projects and other broader environmental enhancement projects provide a unique opportunity for someone to make a real difference for Southland/Murihiku. Ideally that person would have a blend of technical, project management and people skills but fundamentally we're looking for someone who is well organised, can relate well to others and knows how to get things done. This is an excellent opportunity to expand the skills you've already developed to date in your career, particularly if you have an interest in river management/ environmental management.
It's a big area - Milford Sound to the Catlins - and you need to be comfortable both with working outdoors and driving technology. We work closely with the communities we serve and consequently you'll need to able to listen and engage well, be able to articulate complex concepts in form that is understandable to those communities and be confident in presenting in a public forum. Of course the best part about this job is where you'll be working - Southland/ Murihiku, a natural environment second to none.

This is a full-time, permanent position offering an initial remuneration in the range of $93,060-$98,230.
