Our Correction Officers, both men and women, come from all walks of life and bring a wide range of attributes and life experiences with them. Our prisons operate 24/7 - applicants must be able to work shifts on a rotating roster. To be eligible you need: The right to work in New Zealand or a work visa with at least 12 months remaining. Or overseas candidates with relevant work experience on a visitors visa as long as you can be in the country for the recruitment process.A full or restricted New Zealand Driver Licence(Or Restricted Licence if you can get your full within 3 - 6 months) (holders of an International Licence are also eligible to apply)To declare any conflicts of interest and previous convictions and/or affiliations with people who have criminal associationsThe ability to pass a drug testTo be medically fit for employment and complete a Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness AssessmentIn line with our Strategy Hokai Rangi, we are prioritising applications from people who have experience in a Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environment and/or a willingness to learn. You'll then complete a residential twelve week initial training course. In return you'll get opportunities for professional development, promotion and the ability to gain recognised qualifications in Offender Management. We offer fully paid training, starting with a one-week induction at Whanganui Prison, followed by 5 weeks of training at our National Training Centre in Trentham, Wellington, and then 5 weeks back at Whanganuibefore graduating. Your learning journey will continue with professional practice and development support, along with a clear pathway to career progression. Starting salary $65,019, increasing as you achieve national qualificationsLevel 3 ($69,697)and Level 4 ($75,213). All candidates are required to complete a full disclosure criminal history check.
