The Whakatohea Maori Trust Board ('Trust') is situated in Opotiki, a coastal town in the sunny Bay of Plenty. The Trust was established in 1952 and its primary role is to administer the assets of the trust on behalf of its beneficiaries and in accordance with the Maori Trust Board Act 1955. The Trust's long-term vision  "Ko te kai hoki i Waiaua - to be the food bowl that feeds the world ", confirms the Trusts entrepreneurial spirit, grounded in matauranga (knowledge) which weaves together our future strategic aspirations of being well educated, healthy, socially connected, economically and commercially sound; and living in a thriving environment. With the recent signing of the Whakatohea Treaty Settlement, we are about to experience another period of growth. The Settlement will see the return of significant assets which will support numerous developments currently underway e.g. Whakatohea Aquaculture program, the Opotiki harbour development, and other land-based developments. It's an exciting time to be a part of our continued success story. Te aheinga - The opportunity: As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our organisation based in Opotiki, you will play a crucial role in leading and overseeing the financial functions of the Trust Board and its group. This includes managing financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting activities, as well as ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with significant management experience, expertise in finance and cost accounting, auditing and management accounting. Strategic and Financial Leadership: Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making. Drive financial innovation and contribute to the development and execution of long-term business plans. Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing finance team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability with the finance department. Compliance and Governance Ensure compliance with all relevant financial laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. Establish and maintain effective governance structures within the finance function. Financial Planning and Analysis Develop and implement financial strategies in alignment with the Trust's goals and objectives. Conduct thorough financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to support strategic. decision-making. Accounting and Reporting Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards. Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements and coordinate with external auditors for annual audits. Cost Accounting Implement and maintain effective cost accounting systems to track and control expenses. Analyse cost structures and recommend cost-saving measures to enhance profitability. Cash Management Manage the Trusts cash flow, optimizing working capital and liquidity. Develop and implement strategies to maximize returns on investment and surplus funds. Identify and assess financial risks, implementing strategies to mitigate them. Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets. Tohu - Qualifications  Qualified accountant, with a recognized professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) Proven experience in a senior financial management role, preferably as a CFO. Strong background in auditing, finance, cost and management accounting. In-depth knowledge of New Zealand accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Excellent leadership and people management skills. Strategic thinker and the ability to contribute to the overall business strategy. Effective communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
