Are you a seasoned leader with significant delivery experience in managing a large complex portfolio of capital investments? Do you have the passion and drive to make a real impact to your community? We are seeking a dynamic and capable leader who is accountable for our annual capital portfolio of delivery (circa $380 million) to fill our Unit Director - Design and Deliver role, a full-time position based in the Hamilton CBD.
What does a day in this job look like? Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and Assets. This is a pivotal role managing and delivering the capital investments portfolios across Hamilton City Council's infrastructure and assets programme. You will be at the forefront of Hamilton City Councils vision - Hamilton's full potential to be unlocked - it's the best place to live.
Hamilton City Council is transforming the way it operates, delivers and governs its capital investment portfolio. As such this role will also be responsible for driving a continuous improvement and maturity of our delivery and monitoring capability. A Portfolio Office (PO) is being established and to ensure consistency with delivery disciplines, the Head of Portfolio Office will also report to the Unit Director. You will also be responsible for embedding these changes and ensuring that robust governance, assurance and reporting disciplines are implemented to optimise delivery success of our capital investment portfolio and its associated benefits/outcomes.
In this role, your daily responsibilities will involve leading a team of highly skilled professionals, managing complex vendor contract management, fostering robust strategic stakeholder relationships and implementing and maintaining a delivery lifecycle framework. You will ensure KPI targets are established and you will be tasked with building a delivery and assurance workforce that aligns with the Council's financial model, capacity and capability to delivery against the Long-Term Plan.

Skills & experience we are looking for: Considerable experience working at an executive level in medium to large organisations, preferably within local government. 15+ years programme management experience, ideally in a complex infrastructure engineering consulting environment. 10+ years' experience in a leadership position in a relevant industry with experience in people leadership across multiples levels, sites, and activities. Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to articulate the corporate vision and take people on a change journey. Proven experience in iwi and mana whenua partnerships, customer, and stakeholder relationship management. Media liaison skills and governance meeting presentation experience.
