Details of the offer

Do you want the opportunity to train to become a Registered Anaesthetic Technician?
Are you a 'people person', with good science, biology and physics skills or other proven academic attainments in the health or science field?
Start Date: July 2019Counties Manukau Health is currently recruiting Anaesthetic Technician Trainees for our 24 theatres that are located across two sites. CM Health provides acute and elective surgery to help meet our current and future surgery/anaesthesia demands.
What does a Registered Anaesthetic Technician do?Registered Anaesthetic Technicians are a crucial part of the whole operating theatre team. The primary function is anaesthetic assistant - preparing equipment for anaesthetic procedures and assisting anaesthetists during the process of anaesthesia. As part of the two to three year training programme, practical and clinical learning will be on-the-job (paid), with the theoretical component of the training programme gained through distance learning block courses and practical exams in partnership with AUT (Auckland University of Technology). At the completion of the programme you will undertake an external exam to become registered.
Our Two Sites:We provide a high quality 24 hour, 7 day per week service at two hospital sites (Middlemore Hospital & Manukau Surgery Centre), so you will be required to work flexible rostered hours and be able to fit your 2 ½ years of study in and around your work and family life. Your progress through the programme will be dependent on the successful completion of your study and work requirements each academic year.
At Counties Manukau Health we have a newly enhanced well-supported learning structure with a very supportive Education team to assist you with your development in clinical skills and theory. As a Trainee, you will be given time for studies and exams and great professional development programme. You will be creating an opportunity for a professional career path with heaps of job satisfaction!
For your application to be considered, you will need to have successfully completed Year 12 or 13 in biology and physics or an equivalent Health Science Course. Applicants who have already gained a Science, Health or similar academic qualification or currently undertaking an Anaesthetic Trainee programme are desirable.
You will also need to have an excellent command of the English language both written and verbal and a positive, proactive approach towards your own learning. You will be a team player who works well in a team environment that is focused on patient-centred care. You will have a high degree of integrity, an excellent work ethic and a 'can do' attitude, and an ability to stay calm under pressure.
Candidates shortlisted for the selection process will need to be available for an assessment centre on 24thMay 2019. The assessment centre will consist of written work and a group exercise after which there will be a shortlist for interview. Interviews will take place the week of 3rd June.
