Field Intelligence is a vital intelligence stream that supports Government's commitment to addressing the harms caused by the importation of illicit drugs, revenue fraud (illicit Tobacco) and other cross-border offences.As part of New Zealand Customs Service, the Human Source Unit (HSU) manages field intelligence collection to build relationships and gather intelligence and insights that helps us understand and target cross-border crime. People skills are essential to this work because we gather our information through the relationships we form and the trust that we build. This role is based in Tauranga and will report to an Auckland based manager.This is an exciting new role. We're looking for people who are passionate about protecting our border by meeting a range of port and maritime stakeholders and contacts to produce high impact intelligence. You need to remain calm and composed under pressure and adapt quickly and easily to change. You have to fit in with different types of people, building and managing positive, open relationships as well as having sound judgement, which you'll use to handle sensitive information and situations.You will be required to work unpredictable hours alongside your team on occasion. This may include working long hours and weekends, both in Auckland and out of town.Indicative salary band for Grade 2 is $75,971 - $96,013 plus an annual allowance of approximately $9,230.Requirements to applyYou will need to obtain Top Secret level national security clearance. In order to obtain this clearance you need to be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 10 years and resides in NZ at time of application; OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 10 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past 10 years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Already having Top Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement.Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record. Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test and must hold a full NZ Drivers' licence.
