Waikato North Head's primary purpose is to mine and produce primary concentrate which is then transported in slurry form to New Zealand Steel's Mill at Glenbrook. Located at the mouth of the Waikato River at Otaua, Southwest of Glenbrook, Waikato North Head mine site's ironsand deposit is one of the richest deposits along the coastal regions of the North Island's West Coast.
About the role
We are now seeking a permanent Tailings Operator to join our busy and dynamic Waikato North Headteam. The Operator will undertake a variety of tasks across the tailings operation. Reporting to the Mining Supervisor, the tasks will include operating and managing tails equipment and contractors operating mobile equipment. The role requires the successful applicant to work independently and be able to foresee potential issues in the water quality of the mine or tailings dam construction and take action to ensure this does not occur.
With an uncompromising attitude to safety, you may be undertaking anything from moving the tailings guns, operating pumps, maintaining roading standards or lifting decant lines.
The role is rostered on a 24/7 shift pattern working 12hr shifts (4 on 4 off) dayshift only.
