Lead a team that supports building the capability of Maori landowners and whanau/hapu/iwi. Permanent full-time role that could be based in Turangi, Taupo, Taumaranui or Whanganui, reporting to the Team Lead based in Turangi. He angitutanga | About the role This role is focused on the supervision of external contractors working within the conservational sector, primarily ungulate and pest control as well as supporting the team responsible for thinking about how to best engage with Maori landowners, whanau/hapu/iwi to support landowner capability. Specifically, the role is responsible for leading and managing the efficient delivery of the following: Supervise and audit operational work undertaken by contractors, including pest control, fencing, taonga species management, site restoration. Contribute to the development of landowner capability at place in line with the Komiti's strategic priorities. Contribute to the development of a regional operations work programme and detailed site plans. Collect asset information, as required, to support asset management planning. Collect information relating to contract performance measures to feed into the national monitoring and evaluation work programme. Upholding key relationships with tangata whenua. Promote the cultural framework strategy ensuring a Maori cultural lens is applied to all the work the Operations Supervisor does. Some of the tasks undertaken in the role will include: Preparation of works contracts. Installation and maintenance of extensive predator control networks. Monitoring pest and biodiversity with a wide range of tools. Pest plant control. Working with community groups to achieve biodiversity outcomes. Compile comprehensive reports. Financial budget tracking including invoice processing and goods receipting. Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience A strong understanding and appreciation for the values of tikanga and kawa when working with landowners, whanau/hapu/iwi. A strong background in contractor management of works on private land owned by Maori. Physically fit and capable of working in some rugged environments. Full, and clean New Zealand driver licence. Strong focus on health and safety. Collaborative approach to work and values a strong relationship with our landowners, tangata whenua, and other members of the community including, DOC staff. Your skills and experience in field work will be of great help as your role includes leading and supporting contractors, landowners, whanau/hapu/iwi, rural community groups/schools and members of your team undertaking conservation work in the field. Ideally you will have: Animal pest and weed management; including pest and threatened species monitoring experience. Sound knowledge and practical experience of field delivery work. Current First Aid Certificate. Experience using power tools such as chainsaws and scrub-bars. Ability to interpret GIS information, produce maps and use data loggers/GPS units. Comfortable working in back country remote locations. Experience using safety and navigation equipment. The ability to speak and understand te reo.
