About the role

This position is based in Tongariro National Park, with easy access to three ski fields, the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing and dozens of amazing tracks and activities around the region.

As Supervisor, Community / Kaitauawhi, Ao Hapori you will be responsible for leading, supporting, coaching and developing our small but highly performing team of community rangers. This role will also deliver parts of the community work programmes.

The Community team delivers a diverse range of programmes across permissions/compliance, communications, Treaty settlement implementation, education and volunteering. You will ensure effective weekly work planning, budgeting and ensuring quality work delivery.

About you

We are looking for an experienced people leader who is passionate about conservation and motivated to help manage one of New Zealand's most unique landscapes.

You will be skilled in motivating and coaching team members, have excellent interpersonal skills and be a confident relationship builder who can get along with people from all walks of life.
You will thrive in a work environment that requires you to manage competing priorities, balance planned and reactive work and adapt to challenging and complex situations.

You will be a strategic thinker who can connect DOCs vision, high-level goals and local strategies to the delivery of conservation outcomes at place.

The ideal applicant will:
Have demonstrated experience or a passion for leading people
Be an all-rounder who can both supervise and deliver a range of tasks.
Have a good understanding or willingness to learn basics of Tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
Have excellent interpersonal and both written and verbal communications skills.
Have experience in one or more of the following areas: permissions/resource management, community engagement, working with Tangata Whenua, media/communications and education.

This role will be based in our Whakapapa Office. There is potential for accommodation to be available depending on the preferred location, the detail of which can be finalised at the time of offer of appointment.
