We do this by:protecting land, species, ecosystems, and cultural heritage for conservation purposes,managing threats and adverse impacts,being a voice for conservation,connecting people to nature.As the Supervisor, Community you will be part of the District Leadership Team who are motivated and passionate about working together and leading the Rakiura team to achieve conservation outcomes. You will provide key strategic support to the Operations Manager and coordinate updates to stakeholders such as Southland Conservation Board and Kaitiaki Roopu.This is predominantly an office-based role, however you will have the opportunity to get out of the office to meet with our fantastic Stewart Island/Rakiura community groups.You will be focused on:Leading a small team (providing guidance, support and mentorship), work planning, recruitment, and communicating effectively with staff and members of the publicCapture, scope, prioritise, develop specifications, and regularly review all Community work and statutory requirements for the District Operations teamTake a leadership role in building and maintaining relationships with the Rakiura community, businesses, community groups, volunteers, iwi/hapu/ whanauBe the point of contact for concessionaires in the local community, such as guides and water taxi operators, building collaborative and trusting relationshipsLead media and Official Information Act responses and Ministerial communicationWork with your regional colleagues to ensure integrated delivery of highest priority outcomes for the regionFollow Treaty principles to align the work of the team with mana whenua aspirationsManage public messaging in line with national strategies and local priorities for the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre including visual displays, online, electronic, and printed collateral and outreach opportunitiesProvide delegated thinking for the Operations Manager to ensure long term success in a changing environment.You will be an energetic and positive individual who enjoys leading and working in a team. This role is suitable for aspiring leaders who wish to grow their leadership skills and critical thinking. You will have an interest in the environment or conservation, but prior expertise in delivering this work is not required.If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:Excellent relationship skills and emotional intelligence, with experience operating collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders (such as Community Groups)Excellent verbal and written communication skills (this role involves administrative, report writing and analysis work, as well as some public speaking)A strong commitment to safety, mental health and wellbeing in the workplaceStrong organisational skills with a high level of computer literacyCapable of reading, absorbing, and searching for relevant information in technical documentsComfortable working and living on a remote island (and everything that comes with that!) including; tight-knit community, fresh air, unique lifestyle, amazing environment on your backdoorAn eye for detail, willingness to work towards continuous improvement, and plenty of drive and initiativePrevious experience managing and leading staffExperience in statutory processes, including concessions and RMA advocacyExperience working with mana whenuaDOC accommodation is available.
