The Bells have a focus on continuous improvement within the business and run a measured system with intensive monitoring allowing them to achieve the highest levels of productivity and farm performance. The business carries 3,600SU and runs a diverse mix of stock classes from bull finishing and breeding cows, to sheep breeding and finishing which has required the owners to be highly planned and have strong feed management policies in place. The bulls are grazed in 6-9 cells and rotated every three days, with 100 finished annually. The cows are utilised for clean-up and there are also some high performing ewes with consistently strong lambing percentages. The infrastructure has been thoughtfully designed to allow for ease of stock movement over the farm's easy to medium hill country. WHAT As the Stock Manager you will enjoy the benefits of this organised farming operation, with detailed plans in place, to set you up for success. Good communication and providing you with support is important to the owners, as such weekly meetings will be held in the beginning followed by monthly as you become more confident with their systems. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has proven practical skills to test their management capabilities with support from progressive and experienced owners. You will be encouraged to share ideas and as you begin to understand the grass growth and seasons, this will allow you to manage the stock and achieve some excellent results. A component of the role will also involve general maintenance and repairs – mainly around conventional and electrics. An understanding of or wanting to learn about feed budgets and pasture management of all stock classes will be key to your success in this role. WHO Our client is looking for a Stock Manager who is a team player and can follow and implement set plans. Along with a positive attitude the below are also key to success in this role: Strong level of stockmanship, both handling and animal health.You will need a small team of 4 working dogs to manage the livestock systems.Experienced with feed budgeting and pasture management (extra training to be given).Understand weather conditions and how they affect pasture growth.Ability to work to a system and follow the detailed farm plan.Experience with ASD and NAIT (an advantage).Strong communication skills with the ability to discuss ideas.Meticulous reporting and recording.
