The Service Design team within Oranga Tamariki is growing and we're looking for a Service Designer with passion and experience for designing services for some of the highest need tamariki in New Zealand. We'll need you to be able to design with te ao Maori and tikanga at the centre of everything you do.
To do this:
We create spaces for voices and experiences to be heard and acted on
We inspire, challenge and influence Oranga Tamariki and its partners to deliver meaningful change
We advocate for the wellbeing and aspirations of tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau, hapu and iwi
About the team

About the role
Working alongside the design team you will champion design thinking across Oranga Tamariki - picking up on trends, future thinking and drawing on research and developments in tamariki and kaupapa based design.
You will be joining an established and highly functioning Service Design team that is based out of Wellington and Auckland and you will get the opportunity to both lead and support design initiatives within the community and the business.
On occasion you will be required to travel around the country to work with the community, our partners and stakeholders.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
experience in design thinking and tangata centered design and will have designed services that have been implemented in the real world
experience working with tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau, hapu and iwi in ways that enhance mana and are whanau centric
excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to facilitate change while holding space for complex challenges
ability to build and maintain stakeholder and client confidence
an in-depth understanding of design thinking methodologies and tools
high work standards and attention to detail and
experience with information design practices and the Adobe Creative Suite would be welcomed
knowledge of Te Reo and tikanga Maori would be an advantage.
What we offer
We offer a dedicated and supportive team, flexible work options and the opportunity to apply your skills and experience to the wellbeing of vulnerable tamariki and tangata.
Who we are?
Our tamariki and rangatahi deserve to feel safe, have their voices heard, and be surrounded by loving whanau. At Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children, we're on a journey to ensure that it happens.
