More than one million people visit Department of Conservation (DOC) visitor sites across the country annually. As the country's largest tourism experience provider, DOC, has become more strategic and forward thinking in visitor management and experience design.
Protect, Connect and Thrive are three key drivers DOC's Heritage & Visitor thinking and these values provide the backbone in supporting experience design, visitor planning and rolling out new systems and processes across all levels within the Department.
DOC is looking for a strategically focused, confident senior advisor that can influence and advise key decision makers in ensuring that DOC's heritage and visitor priorities are clear.
You will play a key role in developing a high-performing team that helps support DOC to succeed in an environment of growing visitor numbers, changing visitor and community expectations, and increasingly complex conservation management issues. As part of a small but pivotal team, your ability to work with and through others, both in and out of the department, will be critical. As will your ability to think through policy problems clearly and impartially, and to communicate your advice in an accessible and compelling way.
The Senior Strategy and Investment Advisor contributes to delivering an investment portfolio for DOC to achieve its stretch goals and develop, manage or contribute to action plans to deliver a 10-year work programme of key developments and improvements to enable the strategy to be realised.
You will be able to show that you:
Think and act strategically, and embed, implement and engage others internally and externally in DOC's vision and strategy
Can lead, manage or contribute to complex and long-term strategic planning projects,
Have credible and influential relationships and ability to build new ones either within DOC and/or within the government tourism, recreation and heritage sectors
Engage and work in partnership with whanau, hapu and iwi
Influence others with impact, and inspire and motivate people, and
Understand New Zealand's conservation issues.
This 12-month, fixed-term maternity cover reports to the Strategy and Insight Manager in the Heritage and Visitors Unit.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
