We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Strategy Advisor to be at the cutting edge of iwi development and iwi kaitiakitanga. You will make a significant impact on behalf of Ngai Tahu whanui, leading policy staff to enable us to realise the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu vision: 'mo tatou, a, mo ka uri a muri ake nei' (for us and our children after us).
Te Whakaariki/Strategy and Influence's main objective is to protect and advance Settlement. This includes the commitment to fair and principled recognition of the rights and interests of Ngai Tahu whanui, understanding and supporting Papatipu Runanga views and aspirations, influencing central government reforms, and leading and contributing to legislative reform and policy processes.
This role provides a unique opportunity to exercise strategic thinking, relationship-building, advocacy, and leadership - all while carrying out meaningful mahi that you can feel proud of. You will be a connector of people, leading engagement with Papatipu Runanga across the takiwa on key issues, and liaising with central and local government. A solution-focused problem solver, you will thrive leading on challenging issues. You will bring excellent legislative and policy analysis skills, and be able to develop internal positions and strategies that align with the Ngai Tahu vision and values.
The successful applicant will have expertise in the following areas:
A strong understanding of the issues facing iwi Maori and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy and legislative development.A degree in law, political science and/or public policy.5+ years professional policy experience with preference given to experience in Treaty / Settlement matters, law and/or iwi engagement.Excellent written and communication skills.Leadership experience of managing and mentoring kaimahi.Ideally you will also have:
Knowledge of Ngai Tahu and/or relationships with iwi Maori.People leadership experience.Experience in the development and implementation of polices and legislation.The successful applicant will have a strong affinity for the needs and aspirations of our ultimate stakeholders, Ngai Tahu whanui. Alongside this, you will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to learn and engage with our Ngai Tahu values and te reo Maori. Ka tika!
