Korero mo te Turanga | About the Role As the Senior Science Technician, you'll get to work with our multi-skilled team of technicians and analysts, where your key focus is to oversee our regionwide Aquatic Ecosystem Health monitoring programme. You'll need an excellent understanding of freshwater sampling methodologies, expertise in macroinvertebrate sample processing and taxonomy, and the initiative and drive to help you achieve our targets. Your fieldwork will involve using a variety of methods and equipment to obtain samples for macroinvertebrates, periphyton, water chemistry, and other surface water parameters. In the laboratory you will undertake sample processing and identification of benthic macroinvertebrate species and oversee the training and guidance of summer students to assist with your data collection. You'll play a crucial role in data administration, quality control and assurance, and documenting our data processes. Other tasks include: Coordinate with Scientists and other Programme Leaders Manage and asses datasets and database support GIS for field planning and reports Investigate anomalies to ensure our data is at its best Respond to internal and external data requests Instrument validations and equipment maintenance Water quality and ecological investigations Mou ¦ About You You'll ideally have a qualification in a relevant field supported by at least 3 years of technical experience, along with proven experience overseeing environmental data programmes. You'll easily build productive relationships as you're a natural communicator with a strong work ethic and a positive inclusive attitude. You'll be able to demonstrate: Attention to detail and a methodical nature Great concentration, patience, and perseverance Initiative and self-motivation Adaptability and resilience Ability to identify, investigate and resolve data issues Vision to improve processes This position will require occasional overnight stays and some work outside of normal hours. You'll have a clean Class 1 driver's license and be comfortable driving long distances. Confidence and common sense working in and around water, when alone, and in a variety of weather conditions is essential.
