Senior Policy and Research Advisor/Policy and Research Advisor for Greens Leaders OfficePolicy and Research Advisor / Senior Policy and Research Advisor Bring your policy analysis skills and passion for parliamentary practice to an exciting role with the Greens in Parliament.
Policy and Research Advisors work in a small team to make sure Green Party MPs are supported to advance Green Party policy goals. This includes policy work to support public-facing advocacy of Green Party priorities.
Reporting to the Policy and Research Director, you will enjoy Parliament's collaborative and fast-paced working environment. You will be driven by a commitment to Green Party kaupapa, using your intellectual skills to support Green Party MPs to be at the forefront of public policy in Aotearoa.
You may have specialist background or knowledge of a particular policy area, and you'll use your skills as a fast learner to quickly get up to speed on a range of issues. A background in law or economics will be an advantage in this role. Familiarity with parliamentary and governmental processes is desirable.
At Senior Advisor level, you will have the experience to work independently and mentor other team members.
Some of your daily responsibilities and accountabilities will include: 
Analysing and providing advice on policy and legislation.Supporting MPs to develop transformational policy solutions to the issues facing Aotearoa.Preparing Green MPs for meetings with stakeholders and other politicians and supporting them at meetings.Undertaking research and preparing oral and written questions.Contributing to MPs' advocacy work on issues and legislation.Researching and developing information that assists the communications team to deliver positive media coverage of Green Party MPs and priority issues.Staying up to date with developments and debates in priority policy areas.Developing and maintaining relationships with sector and industry representatives, NGOs, unions, academics, and other interest groups.This exciting opportunity will offer you variety and challenges and provide you with a unique insight into the political process and how Parliament operates.
Ideally, you will have at least two years' experience in a policy role within the public service and/or an advocacy organisation such as an NGO. Depending on experience, the appointment may be as a Policy and Research Advisor or Senior Policy and Research Advisor. Advisor appointments will be made between $74,375 - $85,000 and Senior Advisor appointments between $90,125 - $103,000.
This is a full time, events-based position, based in the Green Party's Wellington parliamentary offices. Some flexibility of working hours may be required according to the business of Parliament.
