Details of the offer

Emergency Department
Come and join us in Thames, at the gateway to the Coromandel! We are seeking applicants for positions, in our rural emergency medicine department. Thames is a rural hospital serving a catchment population of 45,000 in the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki Plains, with the population swelling over the summer holidays. We have a 15 bed emergency department seeing 18000 patients per year, and 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT. The inpatient unit has 40 beds split between general medicine, low acuity surgery and rehabilitation. Those requiring specialist care are transferred to Waikato hospital, just over one hour away by road. Virtual health continues to develop in Thames, with ward rounds, outpatients, and stroke thrombolysis all supported by telehealth.
The emergency department is staffed by an eclectic mix of doctors - rural specialists, emergency medical officers and emergency specialists. We assess all patients presenting acutely to the hospital and treat or admit as required. We provide procedural sedation for both adults and children when necessary. Thames is accredited for training medical students years 4 and 6, and for rural registrar training.
The hospital has an on-site gym and we have fishing and tramping on our doorstep, and surf just over the hill. The town is equally spaced between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, for your urban fix. We face west and promise an excellent sunset every night!
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in rural or emergency medicine
An understanding of the challenges and rewards of rural hospital practice
Current acute life support courses - adult, paediatric
Enthusiasm to join the hospital and wider community

Desirable:
FDRHM, FACEM, FRNZCGP
Postgraduate certificate in clinician performed US
