Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor In Small Animal Internal Medicine - Academic Track

The School of Veterinary Science at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand invites applications for a newly created, permanent academic position in small animal medicine. The successful candidate will join two existing faculty members in the small animal internal medicine service.

The successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time providing internal medicine services to the clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Our internal medicine team includes the existing 2 FTE of board-certified internal medicine specialists, one specialist in Clinical Nutrition, and residents in our ACVIM SAIM program. Additional support is provided by dedicated technical staff, and rotating small animal interns.

A veterinary degree that can be immediately registered with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand is essential.
Either a specialist qualification Companion Animal Internal Medicine or eligibility to sit an examination in the aforementioned, is desirable.
The Massey VTH is the largest multi-specialist veterinary hospital in New Zealand. Hospital facilities include flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiology and ultrasound, fluoroscopy and in-house 16-slice CT. MRI examinations are regularly performed at a nearby human imaging practice. The hospital maintains a full suite of in-house diagnostic laboratory equipment including blood gas analysis. The building is shared with NZVP, a full-service reference laboratory owned and operated by IDEXX. Patient care is provided 24/7 by a dedicated team of ER veterinarians and technicians, backed up by 2 board-certified criticalists. Additional clinical services within the hospital are provided by a group of 3 board-certified surgeons, dedicated anaesthesia staff, and visiting dermatology, Opthalmology and cardiology services.

The city of Palmerston North is a family-friendly, eminently bikeable, compact city of approximately 60,000 people centrally located on the north island of New Zealand. There is easy access to outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, excellent road- and mountain biking and surfing. The town has a vibrant coffee culture, numerous restaurants, and is close to some of the best winemaking areas in the world. The nearest large city, New Zealand’s capital city Wellington, is approximately 1.5 hours drive away. Wellington provides a dose of big-city culture and is the departure point for vehicle ferries to the south island.
