Korero mo te turanga - About the roleThis is a unique opportunity to join our small, tight-knit, multi-disciplinary compliance team of experienced investigators and lawyers who work in partnership to investigate potential breaches of the Overseas Investment Act (the Act), and to take enforcement action where appropriate. See here for information about our enforcement priorities and enforcement action taken.Your main areas of responsibility will be investigating possible breaches of the Act, including : Where Overseas Persons have breached their conditions of consent; Serious offending where Overseas Persons have failed to obtain consent before acquiring sensitive assets and / or taken steps to circumvent the Act Where investors or persons of interest have made false statements or material omissions in any representations made to the Regulator. The work we undertake is wide-ranging, complex, and interesting. To thrive in this role, you will enjoy operating in a small collegial team environment and the challenge of investigating complex business structures and transactions. As part of Toitu Te Whenua's networked approach to work, you will also be required to undertake investigative work in other regulatory areas LINZ administers as required. He pukenga tou - Skills & Experience : The ideal candidate will have both accountancy / financial skills and previous investigative experience (preferably within a regulatory environment). We are specifically looking for someone with accountancy / financial skills to support the team, as they are invaluable when looking to understand the true beneficial ownership behind investments that may have been made in breach of the Act (such as when overseas persons have used local associates to conceal their investment). As this is a Senior Investigator role, you will be expected to have at least 5 years of investigative experience, and a proven track record of successful investigations leading to enforcement outcomes. You will also need maturity, resilience, and sound judgement to operate successfully in our work environment.
