We work across land, sea, data, Crown property and regulatory areas. Guided by the whakatauki 'Whatungarongaro te tangata toitu te whenua' [people come and go, but the land remains], our purpose is 'understanding, developing and caring for whenua, moana and arawai'.
Our organisation is made up of passionate, engaged and talented people. We have recently landed an exciting change at LINZ that focused on how we could become more integrated and connected internally, and with our customers. As an organisation we are now set up to provide varied paths to support career development and exposure to work for our people.
The Compliance Team The Compliance Team is part of the Regulatory Practice and Delivery Group, principally working on compliance matters under the Overseas Investment Act 2005, but with responsibilities extending across the regulatory regimes administered by LINZ. We are a tight-knit, multi-disciplinary, team consisting of lawyers, investigators, and intelligence professionals who work closely together on a wide range of compliance issues.
The Compliance Team is responsible for identifying and investigating possible breaches of the regulatory regimes LINZ administers and taking enforcement action where appropriate. We also house the intelligence function for LINZ and are responsible for producing intelligence products to identify risks and opportunities and help inform decision makers.
A key aspect of the role is supporting the National Security and Public Order regime under the Overseas Investment Act, under which we are required to identify and screen overseas investments that may pose national security risks. You will be responsible for the production of assessments determining the risk of specific investments, and strategic reporting on emerging risks and trends. You will be required to communicate your assessments to a range of partner agency stakeholders and ministerial decision makers.
As a senior member of the team, you will be required to support the training and development of your colleagues. Your expertise in intelligence or economic analysis will support the growth of the team.
You will need excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills as you will work with your counterparts across government on these matters. You will have an enquiring mind, the ability to analyse and make sense of a wide range of information or data, and the courage to challenge the status quo.
You will also be required to provide intelligence products to assist the Compliance team to identify, and investigate, possible breaches of the Overseas Investment Act and other regulatory regimes administered by LINZ.
To be appointed to the role you should be able to detail your education and experience in at least one of the two fields; intelligence (preferably in a defence, law enforcement, or regulatory contexts) and/or economic analysis (preferably experience in mergers/acquisitions, private equity, or comparable fields). Coupled with an enthusiasm to learn new subject matter!
If you possess the skills and experience we're looking for, and have an interest in the work we do, then come join the Compliance Team in the vital work we do to make sure New Zealand's most important assets are protected.
