The Commission is an Independent Crown Entity headed by a Chief Executive and governed by a Board of Commissioners chaired by a Chief Commissioner.As a Commission, we advocate for children's rights to be recognised and upheld, provide advice and guidance to government and other agencies, advocate for system-level change, ensure children's voices are heard in decisions that affect them and monitor places where mokopuna are detained.Our name, Mana Mokopuna, describes who we are and what we stand for.At its heart, Mana Mokopuna recognises the many elements that will support mokopuna to thrive. Mo te tunga | About the roleReporting to the Manager Mai World, the Senior Engagement Specialist will work alongside the Project Lead and Practice lead to support work related to our 'Te Aorerekura Engagement Project'.To bring effect to this collaboration, we are looking for a Senior Engagement Specialist who will establish and implement a strategic plan of engagements and activities which will facilitate meaningful engagement with mokopuna and their whanau, aiga and communities.In this role you will help deliver and implement a strategic plan of activities and initiatives that will foster an environment where mokopuna are comfortable to share their views and their voices can be heard. You will be well connected and trusted within your community and will have the ability to amplify the voices of mokopuna to ensure that they are centred in our Te Aorerekura Engagement Project.This role will join the Mai World Team, contributing to voices work in the team and across the tari. This Te Whanganui-a-Tara - based fixed term position is available through to November 2024. We welcome a potential secondment from another agency.You can find a full position description for the role on our website.Nga pumanawatanga ou | What you will bringIdeally you will be a social work practitioner or have experience working directly with mokopuna as a youth worker or other practitioner in the social sector. A background in family violence and sexual violence (FVSV) would also be beneficial and it is important you understand FVSV in the context of Aotearoa.To effectively undertake your duties, it is essential that you are able to engage effectively with mokopuna, and have expertise and experience in advocating with, and for, mokopuna Maori and their whanau, and working from a Te Ao Maori perspective is also important.
