Editing & Publishing (Advertising, Arts & Media) We are looking for the right person to supervise a team of reporters covering Singapore issues. He/She will have a deep knowledge of Singapore issues and good contacts of experts in the relevant industries. The incumbent is able to direct reporters to bring out the most salient news points in a story. He/She is able to vet stories to ensure accuracy, objectivity and timeliness. Must be able to work under pressure.ResponsibilitiesReview and decide what news events to coverAssigning appropriate story to relevant reporter. Brief and debrief reporters before and after assignment to ensure salient news points are capturedVet stories to ensure they are accurate and make best use of the material gatheredLook out for possible follow-ups that can be developed from diary eventsTake an active role in the beats assigned and look out for scoops reporters can pursueParticipate in forward planning for important assignments/projectsDevelop and enhance professional competence by providing both constructive feedback as well as guidance to reportersAdhere to the policies and rules set by regulators by complying with and with editorial guidelinesKeep updated on news and current affairs and other assigned segments by monitoring the market, competitive activities and viewers' feedbackLiaise with other news gathering departments in the Mediacorp network to maximise the use of company resourcesGuide team to analyze information/data for greater depth in storiesQualificationRequirements:A dynamic individual with a good University DegreeExcellent command of the English Language, both written and oral, and a good grasp of political issuesAt least 10 years of experience working in a newsroom, of which 5 years' in a supervisory role Broadcast Media, Entertainment and Publishing Mediacorp is Singapore's leading media company with the most complete range of platforms, spanning television, radio, newspapers, magazines, movies, digital and out-of-home media.It pioneered the development of Singapore's broadcasting industry, with the broadcast of Radio in 1936 and Television in 1963.Today, Mediacorp has over 50 products and brands in four languages (English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil), reaching out to all adults in Singapore every week.Initiatives in the new digital space include Internet TV-on-demand, High Definition TV broadcast and Over-the-Top (OTT) interactive services.Beyond Singapore, Mediacorp is an active regional player through co-productions in TV dramas and movies, magazines publishing, as well as Channel NewsAsia International, one of the first Asian-owned English news channels.Our financial and strategic relationship in the region includes International Media Corporation in Vietnam, which was set up to develop and produce television entertainment and economic news content.
