Job Description We are looking for a senior dairy farm assistant who is looking for a long term role. Our ideal candidate is motivated, reliable, honest, hard working and a team player. You should be able to help other staff learn and to learn from our other staff. Candidate must have NZ citizenship or a valid working visa for 2 years or more.. Candidate must have at least 2 seasons full time experience on dairy farms in NZ. Candidate must be confident in shed hygiene, detecting mastitis, lameness, other ill health stock and be able to treat them according to the policies of Koopmans Ag. Candidate should also be confident working through calving - identifying new mums, assisting with feeding calves occasionally, picking up newborn calves, assisting in maintaining accurate records of calved cows etc. Candidate will also be required to feed out driving a tractor with a mixer wagon and using a Merlo (telehandler) with a grab for loading up. We milk 1000 cows through a 54 bail rotary, with ACR, auto drafting gate, auto teatsprayer and in shed feeding. We do not have irrigation on the dairy farm, although we also have a runoff block where we winter cows and run young stock. This secondary block is irrigated with pivots. We have 5 full time staff currently (Vincent and Yvonne, who are the owner operators, plus a 2IC and two full time assistants) and a relief milker. We have Halter technology on farm which means there are typically no temporary fences to shift as we use virtual fencing technology. This technology is also used for monitoring cow health, pasture management etc. We are not just a dairy farm. We also run deer for velvet and breeding, do the majority of our own silage and cropping, and raise our young stock on farm. This variety in our business means there are opportunities for variety in your work. We hold a drug free policy and may require drug testing. Candidate must also have a clean police record. We do not allow smoking on our property. Accommodation The house available for this position is a 3 bedroom property with a new kitchen and bathroom (renovated last year). Our main farm, and this house, are located 10mins north of Methven towards the Rakaia Gorge. We are on school bus routes for Mt Hutt College, Methven Primary School, and Our Lady of the Snows School. Methven is a thriving community with two small supermarkets, multiple cafes, bars and restaurants, two preschools, a playcentre and many other amenities. We are also only approximately 30mins from the top of Mt Hutt for skiing.
