Senior Advisor, Planning and Governance at Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet, Wellington SeniorAdvisor, Planning and Governance Fixed Term or Secondment to March 2025 In response to the complex recovery of regions affected by the Auckland Anniversary Weekend floods, Cyclone Hale, and Cyclone Gabrielle, the Cyclone Recovery Unit (the CRU) was stood up in March 2023 and is hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The purpose of the CRU is to support the Chief Executive Cyclone Recovery to coordinate cross-government work on cyclone recovery; to support locally led engagements with communities, iwi, business, and local government; coordinate planning and reporting; and ensure alignment with broader policy decisions on long-term resilience.
The purpose of the Senior Advisor, Planning and Governance role is to contribute to the coordination, development and implementation of the Cyclone Recovery programme across the Government system. The role will focus on support for Crown Funding Agreements and delivery of the Whenua Maori and Marae Pathway for severely affected locations, nurturing key relationships and maintaining a focus on turning government policy decisions into sound operational policy and deliverable actions.
The Senior Advisor, Planning and Governance promotes the use of effective planning and inter-agency co-operation to respond to risks and will be highly effective at turning complex information into a presentable format for reporting or communication purposes.
A key part of the programme planning and implementation process is to engage with multiple agencies as well as regional and community stakeholders including iwi/Maori to ensure their views and recovery planning considerations are aligned with central planning. Further forums will need to be established to support programme governance and the Whenua Maori and Marae Pathway implementation. The role will help support the establishment of these additional forums with national and regional stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring capability in the following areas:
Experience within the public sector and sound knowledge of the machinery of government.Demonstrated experience in advising and supporting people at all levels of an organisation.Excellent relationship management skills.Experience in developing, authoring and implementing operational plans.Demonstrated conceptual and critical thinking skills and strong analytical ability.Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills.A knowledge of and interest in all-of-government system coordination and national security issues (broadly defined) would be an advantage.Knowledge of emergency management planning and critical infrastructure and/or social and community resilience sectors an advantage.A full job description is available through the 'Apply Now' button.

Ta matou e tuku | What we offer Salary range $110,000 - $125,000 p/a including Kiwi Saver contributions.
