The communications team is critical to the Ministry. We lead communications and engagement around the biggest changes to New Zealand education in decades. We are responsible for ensuring that we listen and respond to the views of the tens of thousands of New Zealanders who are contributing to these changes through the Korero Matauranga - Education Conversation. We lead all engagement with the media, and manage all the Ministry\'s internal and external communications channels, publications, branding and communications design. This is an exciting, fast paced and dynamic working environment.

About this role

This role of Kaitihu Tuakana - Senior Advisor Social Media contributes to the development of our social media strategy and manages key social media accounts. You will also provide expertise and advice on the use of social media across the communications group and the Ministry.

The position sits within a new Online and Digital team and as part of an increased focus on communicating with our audiences via our several social media platforms. This includes proactively engaging with key audiences in Maori, Pacific, learning support, parental and student communities.

Key accountabilities are as follows:

Provide trusted advice and expertise to the communications group and business leaders on social media strategies, services, and content to ensure joined up internal and external communications
Manage, continuously improve and innovate key social media channels
Demonstrate professional leadership with online and digital communications in the group and across the Ministry as a proactive partner with the sector
Contribute to the social media and communications strategies
Work closely across the communications team and wider Ministry to ensure delivery of proactive, timely advice and plans within the wider sector context
Contribute to operational planning and seek feedback to continuously improve delivery
Actively engage with the public and educators at events in a highly professional manner in order to create and promote content and Ministry engagement with the sector

About you

We are looking for a Senior Advisor with proven experience in leading with influence, strong relationship management and communications skills both strategically and in delivery.

You will have well developed experience and networks in online and digital sectors and a strong understanding of Maori, Pacific, learning support, parental student and other key audiences in education. You will bring a knowledgeable, proactive and calm approach.
