Senco Special Education Needs Coordinator

To oversee the Special Education Unit teaching a group of up to fifteen students aged 13 21 ORRS funded Very High and High Needs plus students identified by the SENCO requiring one to one teaching and care To identify the learning needs of a wide range of students across the school To accelerate students literacy skills including identifying and teaching ESOL students To do ordinate identification of GATE students and arrange experiences that develop their areas of interest Excellent skills to build strong relationships Gifted and Talented students Student with learning difficulties Required Attributes Trained and qualified teacher with current NZ Teacher Registration Preferred Attributes Special Education qualification Special Education experience or experience in working with disabled young people Ability to compile and implement Individual Education Plans IEPs and modifying mainstream programmes to suit Requires knowledge of identification and development to extend GATE students areas of interest Organise and do ordinate teams to create behaviour plans and monitor utilising RTLB Ministry and specialists Write SAC applications for students Experience in working with young people including Maori and Pasifika Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to motivate teachers to motivate and enthuse young people to learn Ability and willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school outside the classroom The ability to complete other tasks as included in the Job Description
