Based within the Society and Infrastructure Department, you will work with leading scientists involved with a variety of research and applied projects across GNS Science's portfolio.In 'Natural Hazards & Risks' Theme, we conduct research to understand more about our geohazard hazards (including earthquake, landslides, volcanoes, and tsunami), and its risk and impact to our communities (e.g., the consequence and how people, communities and society can plan for, respond, and adapt to the threats). Similarly, in 'Environment & Climate' Theme, our research focuses on the sustainable management of the environment (e.g., groundwater modelling and environmental monitoring, carbon cycle dynamics and sea level rise/climate science). We also investigate effective adaptations to the climate change (e.g., sea-level rise affecting coastal communities and infrastructure, and extreme weather events triggering landslides).There may be opportunities to engage with the 'Energy Futures' and 'Land & Marine Geoscience' Themes depending on organisational needs and skill set of the successful applicant. Collectively GNS works with central and local government, Maori communities and entities, other Crown Research Institutes, universities, research centres and industry.You may be based in Auckland, Wellington, or Dunedin, to help us with evolving opportunities for fundamental and applied research. This is an opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team contributing to world leading research on natural hazard risks to the built environment.
