Details of the offer

Cancer Psychological and Social Support Service (CPSSS)
Registered Clinical or Health Psychologist
Permanent, 40 hours per fortnight
About the role:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered clinical or health psychologist to provide psychological services for people with cancer or suspected cancer and their whanau. This is a national initiative that sits as part of the Faster Cancer Treatment programme. CPSSS is targeted towards patients and whanau with complex psychological and social issues associated with cancer, or towards groups within communities who may find it more difficult to access and utilise services. Therefore, Maori and Pacific communities, people with socio-economic disadvantage, remote and rural populations, and people with co-existing physical, social or mental health issues are a focus for this initiative. This position is based at Hamilton, Waikato Hospital.
This position entails assessment and therapy with individuals or/and their whanau/support persons. The setting is predominately outpatient with some inpatient consultations. The patients are adults from the age of 16. This position would suit a clinician with experience in the area of health psychology, and mental health assessment and intervention skills are also considered very useful in this position.
The successful applicant would develop relationships within the wider medical teams and external social and support agencies and other networks.
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in working with interdisciplinary teams and in medical settings with individuals and families under extreme stress.
Key accountabilities for the role include:
Delivering psychological services to patients with cancer and/or their whanau with high/complex psychological needs for the DHB, and when required, support other DHBs within the region
Working collaboratively with the Midland Lead Cancer Psychologist and other Midland DHB cancer psychologists and social workers to implement and develop the service
Working collaboratively with the National Lead

Requirements:
registration under the clinical scope of practise or general scope with the NZ Psychologists Board
hold a valid annual practicing certificate
hold a post graduate qualification in clinical or health psychology
at least 3 years' experience in the health sector, with mental health, cancer and/or hospital experience desirable
a full New Zealand driver's licence and the ability to travel
