Due to the geography of the region, the hospital also provides services to a large rural region. The psychiatry programme offers rotations in acute inpatient psychiatry, community adult psychiatry, Maori mental health, rural psychiatry, child and youth mental health, liaison psychiatry and psychiatry for older adults. There is an active clinical training programme with didactic sessions, interactive based teaching, journal club and video conferencing.The LocationWhangarei is called the "Meeting place of the Pacific" because of its many international yachting visitors and the Northland region boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of NZ in a subtropical climate.
