We are seeking an entrepreneurial Project Lead to spearhead the establishment of Citizens of the Sea as a standalone entity, to set it up for enduring success. Citizens of the Sea (CoTS) was created with the aim of harnessing the collective power of seafarers for marine conservation. Our mission is to mobilise ocean cruisers, sailors, and commercial vessels as citizen scientists, providing them with the technology and purpose for impactful data collection in contributing to world-class science for a better future. Job Description About the role In order to establish CoTS as a standalone entity, you will develop the strategy and business plan, and establish the governance and legal framework, while overseeing the operations of the program while it remains inside of Cawthron. Pivotal to success will be identifying and engaging with stakeholders and potential partners of Citizens of the Sea. This is a full-time position expected to last a year, after which the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to transition into the General Manager position, leading CoTS into its next chapter of impactful work. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Development: Craft and refine the strategy and business plan for CoTS, ensuring alignment with our vision of marine conservation and sustainability. Operational Leadership: Oversee the operational execution of the CoTS programme and preparing CoTS for its successful launch as an independent entity. Governance and Legal Framework: Establish a robust governance and legal structure to support CoTS's long-term objectives. Fundraising and Financial Stewardship: Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to secure sustainable funding streams. Partnership Engagement: Forge and nurture relationships with a diverse range of partners, stakeholders, and the global community of citizen scientists. Vision Matauranga and Tangata Tiriti: Ensure the integration and respect of Te Ao Maori values and Te Tiriti obligations in all activities. Desired Skills and Experience About you The ideal candidate is a proven leader with a passion for sustainability, preferably with experience in the science, conservation, or philanthropic sectors. This role is designed for an innovative individual with: An entrepreneurial spirit and a strong track record in project management A talent for strategic planning, operational oversight, and building strong partnerships Skills in financial management and operational execution Adept at engaging, collaborating, and negotiating with key stakeholders Experience working with governance boards Why should you apply?
