The National Bowel Screening programme (NBSP) has been operational across Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty since May 2022 with 27,263 eligible people participating in screening over the past two years. The programme manager role provides leadership of the NBSP team of clinical, community outreach and administration staff and is responsible for ensuring the programme meets Ministry of Health standards and reporting on service performance. This includes meeting indicators for successful patient engagement and progression through bowel screening and performance reporting. A strong focus of the programme is ensuring that all eligible people can safely participate in screening and are supported through subsequent investigation and treatment options. There is a strong commitment to ensuring equity for Maori, Pacific and people who may have barriers to access health services.
The skill set required to manage this programme require background knowledge of health service delivery and leadership and an understanding of bowel cancer pathways of care which ideally will include having worked clinically within related services. Experience in leadership of a screening programme, including quality improvement and performance reporting is a key requirement. Applicants will ideally also have experience in successfully engaging with Maori urihaumate and whanau to deliver services that support culturally safe and effective care. You will need a high level of organisational skills to coordinate and deliver effective outreach of the team across a range of services and communities.
