In this role, reporting to the company Directors, you'll be coordinating the production elements of an event and responsible for bringing our designs to life. Overseeing production schedules and creating everything from customised sets and stages, signage displays, exhibition stands, furniture, pop-up activations, festivals, large/small props, and more. You will be working closely with our directors, design and event management teams installing our projects onto events of all shapes and sizes to ensure the overall physical delivery of an event.You will need to be organised, flexible, reliable and work well under pressure, as well as having an easy approachable manner.About Us:Silk Design is a leading event design company specialising in creating immersive and visually stunning experiences for a diverse range of clients. With a strong portfolio of existing clients, we are looking for a talented and experienced Production & Workshop Manager to join our growing dynamic team.About You:You have previous experience working in event design, scenic design or a carpentry role.You're always striving for perfection in your work, this may only be a temporary installation, but we will always deliver to the highest quality.You're calm under pressure; a lot of our installations have tight deadlines.You're willing to work as part of a team delivering the event, whatever the discipline may be.You are able to read and understand technical construction drawings.Highly developed carpentry and finishing skills.Good working knowledge of a full range of current scenic and exhibition construction methods, equipment, and practices. As well as integrations between technology and scenic elements.You're a strong communicator, both in person and in written content (English essential).You're a proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working on your own initiative.IT knowledge preferably with a working knowledge of Asana (project management) and Fusion 360 / Rhino / Sketchup would be advantageous but not a prerequisite.You have good working knowledge of how to use the Adobe Suite software tools InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop.Day to Day Key ResponsibilitiesProduction ManagementUtilise project management software (Asana) for efficient task management and internal coordination/communication.Collaborate closely with project managers and contribute to project planning.Provide accurate cost estimates to project managers for quoting purposes.Provide guidance and sign-off on estimated figures, event budgets, and production quotations, ensuring that all ballparking that is provided as part of a pitch or proposal process has been feasibility-checked.Monitor the progress of projects involving physical production, ensuring company processes are followed and that all relevant milestones are met in pre-production.Coordinate with the Directors and Project Managers over upcoming projects when needed to ensure that build projects stay on target for both budget and timelines.Responsible for reconciliation on projects, ensuring all costs are assigned to the correct project codes and that any additional charges to clients are communicated in a timely manner.Demonstrate a high level of autonomy in managing tasks and responsibilities across project timelines.Work with the Directors to help the company reach its sustainability goals, specifically on reducing waste and reducing the use of single-use plastic from our workflow.Workshop ManagementWork closely with the full team to ensure a safe working environment and comply with the company's Health and Safety Policy.Maintain and oversee all workshop machinery, tools and equipment, ensuring maintenance and cleanliness is taken care of.Sourcing all suppliers and materials required for projects and managing stock levels of consumables and materials.Quality check projects before dispatch to ensure the highest levels of finish.Managing all outgoing and returning event elementsEnsuring the workshop and vehicles maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety.Work closely with the directors to ensure any workshop upgrades and fixes happen in a timely manner.Fabrication DeliveryLiaising with our teams to develop a plan to bring designs to life within budget and timeline.Overseeing almost all production flow in order to prepare jobs for timely dispatch.Physical production of sets or scenic designs primarily using carpentry and rigging skills through a combination of prefabrication and onsite build.Event / Onsite DeliveryInterior/Exterior fit-out for short term brand activation such as exhibitions sporting events, festivals, trade shows, public space activations and private events.Onsite delivery and installation of our signage, scenic and construction offering.Onsite installation lead. Supervise on-site crew teams for large projects when needed at any venue in a tidy, safe and timely manner.Ensure the correct items are prepped at the workshop and that the team is fully briefed for the installation.Ensuring venues are left in an acceptable state once the event has finishedOnsite duty cover for events with a scenic turnaroundWorking with the team to organise logistical requirements of event delivery including asset resourcing - 3rd party suppliers, crew, vehicles, crew travel, accommodation, onsite H&S etc.Assist in the generation of Event Safety Plans, SSSP's, plans, build schedules, logistics and project packs.Print & Signage (Highly Advantageous)Experience in graphic design and artwork file setup using the Adobe Suite.Execute prepress tasks for print production across a range of media and print processes.Skilled in onsite installation of rigid signage panels, self adhesive vinyl and stretched banners.Governance & processesMaintain professionalism at all times in character and in appearance to represent the company.Keep all work and project-related information confidential and act professionally at all times.Identify any areas of our operation where you believe training and additional skills may be required or benefit yourself, others or the business.Provide feedback to the Directos on any areas of improvement, development, or growth of the business identified. Take a role within the team in problem-solving and contribute to team & business improvement.Ensure that the Company's policies, rules, procedures, and obligations are observed in carrying out the above duties.Maintain and be keen to upskill on best practices, construction techniques, and finishes.Qualifications and Skills:Experience in the signage industry is mandatory.Background in build/fabrication/carpentry is essential.Proficiency in using a CNC router is highly advantageous.Experience with 3D modelling software such as Sketchup, Rhino or Fusion 360.Additional qualifications such as MEWP licence, rigging, working at heights, forklift licence, First Aid are very desirable.Industrial or graphic design skills are highly advantageous.Experience with technical production - lighting, AV is desirable.Willing to travel for multiple days at a time across the country for installations.Willing to work evenings and weekends based on event schedules.Strong organisational skills with the ability to delegate tasks effectively.Full and valid NZ driver's licence is a must.Eligibility to work in NZ is required.How to ApplyIf you meet the above criteria and are passionate about creating impactful event experiences, please submit your CV, portfolio, and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience to ****** .We are aiming for a start date for this role in Mid-May 2024, please advise if notice periods are relevant to this start date.Note: Only candidates who meet the specified requirements will be contacted for further consideration.
