To remain at the forefront of steel quality assurance in New Zealand, Fletcher Steel has developed an appropriately accredited laboratory to support the company's start-to-finish procurement and processing lines to ensure that the best quality steel is being supplied into Fletcher Building construction projects and to Fletcher Steel clients. A development role has been identified to ensure that the Fletcher Steel product property and compliance leadership is seamlessly transitioned over the medium term (one to three years). Initially the role involves gaining experience in the technical aspects of the position and an introduction to the Fletcher Steel processes, products and culture. A quick progression to managing the operation and development of the laboratory is achievable based on proven capability. In particular, the role is focused on: The Product and Testing Engineer is responsible for planning and performing the laboratory testing, from sample receiving, preparation and testing through to reporting the results.The Product and Testing Engineer ensures that laboratory customers (generally internal) are provided with timely and accurate: results, test reports, sampling advice and result interpretationsThe role also aims to improve laboratory performance through continually developing laboratory procedures and the quality management system. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Product and Testing Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and performance of our steel products through rigorous testing and analysis in our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. The laboratory operation is accredited to ISO 17025. Other duties will include: Conducting comprehensive testing of steel products to assess mechanical properties.Developing and implementing testing protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.Collaborating with cross-functional teams including product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance to identify areas for improvement and optimise product performance.Analysing test data and preparing detailed reports outlining findings, recommendations, and conclusions.Providing technical expertise to support the development of new products and/or product quality enhancements.Verifying and calibrating testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. To be successful you will ideally have: A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Proven experience in conducting laboratory testing of steel or related materials.Knowledge of steel manufacturing processes, metallurgical principles, and material properties is desirableProficiency in using testing equipment and software for mechanical testing.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
