Take a lead role advising on complex contracts and procurements!Provide strategic advice on complex and high-profile commercial legal issues.Based in Wellington with flexible ways of working definitely possible.Nga kawenga |About the roleWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our Legal Services Unit as the Principal Solicitor Commercial.The Department procures and then manages some of the largest outsourcing arrangements and infrastructure projects in New Zealand. This is across an incredibly diverse range of goods and services to ensure its sites can function. You will work across complex information technology, property and health and rehabilitation services contracts and procurements and commercial legal issues (and everything else in between!).As the Principal Solicitor Commercial, you will lead the provision of independent advice for legal services in relation to the procurement and delivery of the Department's major (high value and high risk) commercial contracts and provide strategic advice on complex and high-profile legal issues that arise in relation to the procurement and delivery of the Department's major commercial contracts.You will also provide mentoring and support (e.g. peer review) to the other solicitors in the very friendly and tight-knit Commercial Team (both on major contracts and commercial legal work generally).We're looking for a qualified solicitor with proven experience in commercial law, negotiation skills, and leadership abilities. Join us for the chance to work on impactful projects, grow professionally, and contribute to our collaborative team environment.To be successful in this position you will need:A comprehensive understanding of the New Zealand legal system, political environment, and applied legal concepts.A fundamental understanding of the machinery of government.High-level legal problem-solving ability.Ability to identify potential risks and points of conflict, and in turn negotiate mutually acceptable solutions.Advanced relationship management and interpersonal skills.Highly effective written and oral communication skills.Familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to the work of government agencies.The position requires a candidate with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and current eligibility for a New Zealand Law Society practising certificate.
