Principal Software Engineer

About the opportunity:
Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join their team in Auckland. It's a problem solving role in the fast moving GIS industry and would suit an established principal or lead engineer or a senior software engineer (10+ years experience) who is looking for a leadership role within an award winning team. You would be working with Developers, Managers, Architects and Clients to ensure they have the appropriate processes, enterprise application development thinking and disciplines embedded into their software engineering culture.
Role description:
This is a hands-on leadership role. In the short to medium term it will focus on key strategic customers and their projects, in the longer term this role it will work on identifying and implementing best practices among developers while also mentoring the team.
Responsibilities will include:
Take a lead role in the design, development, implementation, testing and supporting of company projects and solutionsWrite and assist with proposals, specifications, detailed solution design and post-project technical documentation including estimates / costings to implement solutionsDevelop a thorough understanding of the business, individual domains and how they contribute to overall business strategyProvide support on products, solutions and other implementations and technical support to the rest of the team as requiredMentor across the organisation and foster a culture of mentoring
This role will ideally suit someone with the following background / experience / qualities:
10+ years commercial experience in software engineering with leadership responsibilitiesStrong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well within a teamExperience developing and implementing enterprise applications solutionsAgile methodologies, in particular SCRUMTime management, planning and organisational skillsExperience with a wide range of technologies and frameworks.
