Principal Advisor, Judicial Education at NZ Ministry of Justice, Wellington Region PRINCIPAL ADVISOR, JUDICIAL EDUCATION Te Haeata/The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Advisor to join the Judicial Education (Design and Delivery) team within Te Kura Kaiwhakawa (Te Kura). Te Kura Kaiwhakawa is the education and development arm of Aotearoa New Zealand's judiciary. We provide ongoing education and legal resources to support our judicial officers at all stages of their careers.
The Principal Advisor, Judicial Education will take ownership of the development and delivery of education and professional development initiatives for the judiciary. The Principal Advisor supports the Deputy Director, Curriculum Design & Delivery to ensure the curriculum needs of all judges are met. This means assisting the judicial education committees on programme content and design, leading the organisation and delivery of programmes (which may be either face to face or online), and reviewing and refining the effectiveness of programmes to ensure they meet learning objectives.
A critical factor for success is your approach to working with others – we are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive person who can lead and engage a diverse range of experts. You will use your professional legal expertise and strong communication skills to enhance the learning potential of the judiciary. You will bring and maintain a strong understanding of current legal, political, social, environmental and technological matters to ensure Te Kura's education initiatives are relevant.
You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills; confident in engaging senior members of the judiciary and with the ability to turn ambiguity into direction.
To be successful in the position you will have:
A sound tertiary qualification in law, ideally with honours or at masters or doctoral level.Ideally an accompanying tertiary degree or experience in another relevant discipline, such as education, psychology or sociology.Admission in New Zealand as a barrister and solicitor or eligibility to be admitted.At least 8–10 years' relevant post-graduationExcellent planning and management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, resolve competing priorities, and deliver against plans.An understanding of te ao Maori, te reo and tikanga and a personal commitment to continuing to develop knowledge of, and in, these three areas.Ideally experience in teaching/adult education.Te Kura is a business unit of Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawa | the Office of the Chief Justice (Te Tari) that supports the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Judge of the High Court in their leadership and administrative responsibilities. The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
