Details of the offer

Principal Advisor, Economics at Ministry for Regulation, Wellington - Wairarapa Be part of a brand-new central agencyHelp shape our future strategic work programme This role is fixed term for four months, located in central Wellington. About us: The Ministry for Regulation is a newly established small Government agency with a big job to do.
We're charged with improving the rules and regulations imposed by Government to make them more streamlined and easier for New Zealanders to navigate.
We are a small group of dedicated professionals, working in a 'can do' environment.
About the Role: In this fixed term role, you'll undertake work to develop and agree an analytical framework for identifying potential future sector reviews by the Ministry and apply that framework to help identify a possible set of prioritised sector reviews.
You will be part of the broader Policy and Strategy team, and working with a Lead Advisor, Economics.
You'll play an integral role in helping the Ministry establish its approach to thinking about how regulation is impacting on the New Zealand economy, and how we potentially measure or assess that impact at a national and sector specific level. Importantly, you will have strong relationship management skills that will allow you to quickly connect with the economics community across government to draw on existing work and datasets.
The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires a capacity to exercise flexibility and sound judgement, juggle multiple tasks and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to other work across the Ministry, and support us to ensure we bring robust economic thinking and frameworks to our advice.
This role is banded from $127,142 - $168,973. The successful candidate is expected to be appointed within this band, dependent on skills and experience, with limited flexibility to consider outstanding candidates beyond this range.
About you: We are looking for someone with demonstrated capability in undertaking economic analysis and research, and who can take a practical approach to solving challenging questions. You will be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment. You will be comfortable contributing your expertise to a range of different projects as capacity allows, and have the ability to effectively communicate and work with policy generalists. You will have strong strategic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills, and ideally experience in providing actionable strategic advice to senor leaders. You will have an existing basic understanding of regulation and regulatory approaches.
You will have at least a tertiary qualification in economics, and likely relevant post-graduate study.
The priority technical requirements for the ideal applicant (e.g. economic specialisation and level of data analysis capability) will be influenced by the need to ensure complementary skill sets between this appointment and the Lead Advisor, Economics.
What we can offer you: The opportunity to be directly involved as we stand up a new central agencyWork within a dedicated and supportive team, with a strong delivery focus, who values diversity of thought and knowledge sharing is encouragedPlay an integral part in developing the way we as a ministry approach our role and how we integrate economic analysis and thinking into our workOpportunity to work with economics colleagues across other agenciesFlexible working optionsHow to apply: The role closes at 5pm on Thursday 23 May. As we are working to rapidly recruit into the new Ministry, we may have initial discussions with selected applicants prior to close.
